Menstrual Health Education Videos in African Languages
Start Early. Speak With Love. Every Girl Deserves to Feel Prepared.
Menstrual health education videos can help parents and caregivers introduce periods early, in a language that children and families understand. Across many African communities, conversations about menstruation are still delayed or surrounded by embarrassment. Blossomflow’s multilingual video collection makes it easier to start those discussions with warmth, accurate information and respect, helping girls feel informed, confident and prepared before their first period.
Through our Period Education Across Africa — In Our Mother Tongues campaign, Blossomflow Empowerment Foundation is sharing menstrual health education in Arabic, English, Yoruba, Igbo, Hausa and Pulaar. These videos encourage parents, caregivers and educators to answer questions openly, explain menstruation without shame and help girls feel prepared for their first period. By providing resources in familiar languages, we hope to make these important conversations easier for families across different communities.

Why Should Parents Talk About Periods Early?
A girl’s first period should not arrive without explanation or preparation.
Early menstrual health education can help girls:
- Understand that menstruation is a natural bodily process.
- Recognise common changes associated with puberty.
- Learn about menstrual hygiene and period products.
- Feel comfortable asking questions and seeking support.
- Approach their first period with greater confidence.
Parents and caregivers do not need to know every answer before beginning these conversations. Listening carefully, providing age-appropriate information and finding reliable resources are valuable first steps.
Why Education in African Languages Matters
Language can influence how comfortably people discuss sensitive subjects.
When menstrual health information is available in familiar languages, parents and caregivers have more opportunities to explain important concepts clearly and engage children in meaningful conversations.
Our multilingual awareness campaign is one way Blossomflow is working to make menstrual health education more accessible across diverse communities.
