It refers to the lack of access to sanitary products, menstrual hygiene education, toilets, handwashing facilities, and waste management. Period poverty can have severe implications on education, health, and overall well-being. Blossomflow encourages girls and women to understand their own bodies. Every girl’s period is unique, and she must learn its nuances and find ways to make that time of the month brighter. If you experience pain or difficulty during your period, know that you are not alone. Many women face symptoms that don’t align with the ideal of a “soft life,” but that doesn’t mean you can’t find ways to cope and make it easier to manage. Here are some of our tips on how to be your own peace when Aunt Flo comes around:

  1. Period Pamp-HER: Treat yourself to a self-care day during your period. Indulge in activities like face masks, relaxing baths, and snacking on your favorite treats. However, try to avoid sugar, which has been known to worsen period pains.
  2. Stock Up on Essentials: From pain management to comfort boosters, there are several items you can keep on hand to help ease any pain or discomfort you may have. Painkillers or analgesics, hot water bottles, and comfy pillows can make the difference between a horrible experience and a manageable one.
  3. Get Moving: Exercise can help alleviate menstrual cramps and improve mood. Try fun workouts like dance classes or gentle yoga.
  4. Period Playlist: Create a playlist of upbeat songs that celebrate you and womanhood. Listening to music can lift your spirits and make your period a little more enjoyable.
  5. Period Power Fashion: Embrace comfortable yet stylish outfits that make you feel confident and ready to take on the world. Opt for loose-fitting clothing and soft fabrics.
  6. Period-Positive Affirmations: Practice positive affirmations to shift your mindset and embrace the natural rhythm of your body. Repeat phrases like “My body is strong and resilient,” or “I embrace the changes of my menstrual cycle with love and acceptance.” Also, avoid anything that doesn’t serve to lighten your spirits. Your period is a good time to re-evaluate the vibes you surround yourself with and deliberately avoid all negative influences during and after your period.
